Renovation between innovative Design and rediscovered Space. The functional cube brings brightness and functionality

City / State: Novara / Italy

In an urban setting where history meets contemporary design, a new renovation project stands out for its bold and refined reinterpretation of living space. Located in a prestigious neighborhood with views of the castle, this fully renovated apartment represents a perfect fusion of functionality and aesthetics.

A Black Material Cube as the Design Focal Point

At the apartment entrance, guests are greeted by a surprising and distinctive element: a black material cube that encloses the service bathroom. This feature not only serves as a visual focal point but also plays a crucial role in ideally dividing the living spaces. Thanks to this solution, three well-defined areas have been created: a living area, a dining area, and a kitchen area. The result is a space that, while remaining open and fluid, enjoys maximum exposure to natural light and a continuous view of the castle, emphasized from every angle of the living area.

Functional Recovery of Spaces

Another innovative aspect of this project was the recovery of the initially “lost” square meters in the hallway. Originally not utilized functionally, these spaces have been transformed with the addition of a service bathroom and a laundry area with a coat closet. This transformation has not only optimized the use of space but also significantly improved the daily functionality of the home. The creation of the cube at the entrance allowed the window of the former bathroom to be freed up for the living area, significantly increasing the amount of natural light. Crossing the threshold of the home, one is welcomed by an enveloping brightness that offers two intriguing vantage points: one towards the living room and the other towards the kitchen, gradually revealing the spaces in a crescendo of visual discoveries. The layout of the spaces creates a perfect balance between separation and continuity, making the living area a welcoming and versatile place.

Flexibility for the Future

Thinking about the future, the designer addressed the issue of a small bedroom for a young couple without children but with the desire to keep that possibility open. The solution was to create a study/relaxation area, conceived as an extension of the kitchen and easily transformable into an independent bedroom with a simple drywall partition with a door. This flexibility allows the space to be optimally used in the present while ensuring the possibility of adapting it to future needs without invasive interventions.

Elegance and Functionality in the Night Area

The night area has been conceived as a refuge of elegance and comfort. The master bedroom, equipped with a king-size bed, is connected to a walk-in closet that utilizes the entire access corridor, offering unexpectedly ample storage space. The master bathroom, directly accessible from the bedroom, is a design masterpiece with a walk-in shower flush with the floor, a double sink area, and a separate and discreet service area. This configuration creates a true hotel suite, combining luxury and practicality.

This renovation project has not only transformed an ordinary apartment into an oasis of light, comfort, and elegance but has also demonstrated how architecture can creatively and functionally respond to the evolving needs of residents. Every detail, from the choice of materials to the distribution of spaces, has been carefully curated to create an environment that is both welcoming and versatile.

Talking About KK Architecture

Maurizio POL Graduated with honors in Turin at the Polytechnic of Turin in the faculty of architecture in architectural design, architectural composition, technology and sustainability. He works in various studios including Aedas Visconti where he had the opportunity to participate in several international competitions and large-scale projects. In 2012 he formed kkarchitecture an entity where private jobs are based on advice from professionals. kkarchitecture was created with the aim of reducing the distance between the figure of the architect and those who need an opinion for their home or business, but are afraid that contacting a professional implies expenses and time difficult to quantify.
The studio takes a step by step approach to architectural design, general renovations and interior design. Step by step the path with the architect is defined, articulated and dissected to accompany the customer in an experience that is as pleasant and stress-free as possible. We have different  solutions to accompany you in every phase of the design, from the first contact, through the advancement of the project details until the renovation is complete.
Clear services, reliable costs, reliable working times and above all an innovative and tailor-made product.
